No. 19, 11th April: Pied flycatcher

The pied flycatchers are back! This photo is hot off the press; I took it only a couple of hours ago! I'm so glad to have their cheerful song and striking plumage back in the valley. This one will have migrated all the way from West Africa to breed here. One positive thing about not going back to university next term is that for the first time in two years I'll be able to spend the spring here in Wales. I love pied flycatchers but I don't think this is reflected particularly well in my photographic portfolio, so I'm hoping over the coming weeks I'll be able to change that!

Technical details: Canon 7D MKII + 100-400mm lens with 1.4x extender at 560mm; 1/800 sec at f/8; ISO 640.
