No. 14, 6th April: The smiling fox

Here's a smiling fox to brighten up your Monday! This photo was taken last August in the field below my house. Strangely, just a few days before this I'd also been photographing urban foxes in Cambridge - the fox gods were clearly looking down on me that week! Compared to the boldness of the city foxes, I initially felt a bit limited by the shyness of this country one. There was no way I could get as close, and I couldn't move around to find the best angles for fear of scaring it off. However, as it trotted further up the field, I was happy to discover that I could frame it among the vegetation. I actually think the shyness adds something to this image; glimpsed between the leaves like this, you can really feel the fox's wary curiosity.
